When to Visit Our Office in New York City
There are number of reasons to visit your trusted New York City podiatrists, Gary Evans, DPM, James Korponay, DPM and Caren Schumer, DPM. In this blog post, we’ve listed some of the more pressing occasions.
If you have diabetes
Whether you were recently diagnosed or it’s a condition you’ve been grappling with for a long time, it is of utmost importance that you visit your podiatrist if you are diabetic. The disease can affect the nervous system, inhibiting your ability to feel sores or injuries to your feet. Additionally, diabetes halts sweat secretion and oil production, important functions that help ward off wounds to the feet. If not addressed, foot problems can lead to serious complications, including amputation and even death.
If you suspect a fracture
If you think you may have broken a bone in your foot, come visit your New York City podiatrists as soon as possible. While bones in the toes or forefoot tend to heal themselves on their own, almost one fourth of the bones in your body are located in your foot so it’s best to be safe.
There are two main types of fractures that can occur in the foots: stress fractures and bone fractures. Stress fractures, commonly associated with sports injuries, are minuscule breaks in the bone. They often happen when an athlete does too much too quickly. Bone fractures, on the other hand, extend through the bone and can sometimes break the skin, called an open fracture. These breaks are usually due to trauma to the foot and can cause the bones to be displaced.
If you have pain, swelling and/or bruising and suspect you may have fractured your foot, contact Gary Evans, DPM, James Korponay, DPM and Caren Schumer, DPM as soon as you can.
If you have a bunion
Bunions are not only unsightly, but they can be quite painful and lead to other foot and toe problems. Additionally, since they are a deformity of the bone, they require your podiatrist’s attention for treatment.
New York City commuters are often stuck wearing tight, ill-fitting shoes throughout the day. Such footwear is the leading cause of bunions, but the structure of each individual’s foot can make one more prone to the condition.
These are just a few of the instances in which you should visit your New York City podiatrists, Gary Evans, DPM, James Korponay, DPM and Caren Schumer, DPM. If you think something funny is going on with your feet, please don’t hesitate to contact our office today.
